Happy Are the Poor in Spirit
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:3
Did Jesus really mean it when He said that being poor was a blessing and a pathway to happiness? Did he really mean it when he told the rich man to sell all his possessions and follow Him? Was Jesus serious when He sent out the twelve disciples and later the 70 disciples and told them not to carry a money belt or extra clothing buy only the clothes on their back? Is it true that it is hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God?
Despite the overwhelming evidence and the lifestyle that Jesus lived, many Christians today struggle with the idea that it is a blessing to be without possessions and totally dependent upon God. Decide for yourself what God is saying to His people by reading Matthew 7:7-11 and the following articles based on that text.
Blessed Are the Poor (Devotional Day 37)
God Gives Good Gifts (Devotional Day 38)
Please read the articles above one at a time, with an open Bible, open heart, and open mind. Then pray and take action as the Lord leads. And if you wouldn't mind leaving your thoughts, questions, and testimonies on the Comments page it would be much appreciated. By doing so you can be a blessing to others and help me make this site better. Thanks and God bless!
